Tuesday, June 28th: Brielle, Netherlands to Amsterdam, Netherlands
Rose: I loved seeing all of the places Anne always talked about when she stayed at our house, such as school and her favorite hang-out spots.
Thorn: It was our last night in Europe!
Today, Anne and Ethan took us to Brielle, Netherlands. This is where Ethan lives and Anne often hangs out with many of her friends. The town of Brielle had many cute shops and restaurants. We all ate lunch at "Chez Andre," a place Anne frequents with her friends. It was lots of fun seeing the places Anne goes to and being able to match a picture to the name. At Chez Andre, I had bitterballen, a traditional Dutch appetizer.
Following our tour of Brielle, we went to Anne's high school. It was so much fun to tour her school and see the classrooms, cafeteria, gym, and of course, bike racks upon bike racks. Biking is the most popular mode of transportation to school in the Netherlands!
After touring Anne's high school, she took us to her hometown of Rockanje. We got to see her house, supermarket, and town square. We also got to visit her Grandma, who only spoke Dutch. Anne was our translator, thankfully, but it just goes to show that despite language barriers, you can still form relationships with others!
Anne also took us out to dinner with Lenny and Bas, her parents. We went to the "Havana Beach Club," one of Anne's favorite places. Other than the rain, it was a beautiful evening with Anne's family. We are so fortunate to have friends "across the pond!" The dinner was followed by a short drive to Amsterdam. I couldn't believe how spectacular the Dutch countryside is. I was drooling the entire time. . . everywhere we went, we either saw a Dutch windmill or shipping harbors with huge tanks and vats. It was so different from America, and I loved it!
Our hotel in Amsterdam was Hotel Roemer. It was a nice hotel to spend our last night in Europe at!
